Getting messages were never my thing but I decided to finally give it a try for relaxing and comfort purposes. In particular, I tried the Bowen Therapy since I've read on it's research and it's proven technique for pain and stress relief. I've heard comments that it's more of a lighter message that had progressive effects and it's safe even for pregnant women. People feel even the relief from chronic pain after a few sessions. Essentially Bowen Therapy is a mix between massage and acupressure using gentle rolls and pauses on specific muscle groups (Australian Muscle Therapy, 2011). It originated from Australia in which therapists worked with muscle grouping maps and discovered findings of nerve connections for physical or emotional pain and stress. My first session at the Toronto West Bowen Clinic was very interesting since I learned a lot about myself and how my body responds to pressure points. I never realized how tense I was and how all my stress has been constrained in my core and around my back and shoulder areas. My Bowen therapist took me thorugh certain muscle groups she thought were sensitive and even my kidneys were felt to be inflammed. Beet juice was a recommendation to help to detox my organs however, I've never hear of it, haven't tried it yet and very hesitant to findout what it tastes like lol. Othere than that I enjoyed the relaxing open space I was in and almost fell asleep :) Cheeky reward for a hard days work. xoxo ~ d'Avelu
